After many years, construction of the sidewalk extension along Route 44 starting east of Broadway to Beekman Park is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 27. The contractor expects the job will take 2-3 weeks.
This project includes the installation of approximately 864 feet of 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk and curbing located along portions of Route 44. The project also includes, but not be limited to, saw cutting; milling; concrete and asphalt removal and disposal; the installation of concrete curbing, sidewalk, and ADA accessible ramps; removal and disposal of existing drainage structures and pipe; the installation of pre-cast concrete drainage structures and pipe; the installation of wooden split rail fence. Route 44 is a NYS road; the sidewalk is within their right-of-way requiring the project to obtain a NYS DOT Permit; which itself meant additional changes to comply with NYS DOT requirements.
This project is being paid for by a Dutchess County Community Development Block Grant and American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) funds award to the Town of Amenia.
