Northwest Connecticut Connie Mack Baseball League

Mission

To provide an independent, inclusive and competitive summer baseball program for young adults between the ages of 16-19 with the emphasis on sportsmanship, fair play and respect for the game and it's participants.

History

In 1980, a Senior Babe Ruth League for 16-18 year olds was formed between the towns of Torrington and Washington which fielded several teams.  At the end of the 1982 season, the league began to look for an affiliation that would offer more local control.  They discovered the Connie Mack Division of the American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) for players 19 years and under.  The AABC allows local control operating under guidelines which they provide.  The AABC also provides tournament play at the State, Regional and National levels.  Connie Mack seemed to be what everyone was looking for so at this point the Northwest Connecticut Connie Mack Baseball League was born.

For a quarter of a century now, the Northwest Connecticut Connie Mack Baseball League has prospered and grown.  From it’s humble beginnings with (4) teams in 1983, the league now operates with between 9-13 teams during any given season.  They are located in Eastern New York State and Northwest and Central Connecticut.  It is recognized, at State and Regional levels, as one of the best operated summer leagues and has developed a reputation for it’s highly competitive level of baseball play in this 19 and under age group.

Season

The Connie Mack regular season play begins in mid-June and runs to the end of July.  Post season tournament play, for those teams qualifying, will run through the first week of August.  Standings for regular season play are determined by a point system format (see By-Laws).  The top 6 teams make the playoffs.  The first round is a single elimination playoff between the 3rd & 5th place and 4th & 6th place teams.  (top two teams get bye).  In the second round the 1st place team plays the lowest remaining seed, 2nd place plays remaining team.  The two remaining teams then play a 2 out 3 series to determine the league championship.

In addition to our league tournament, the AABC conducts a state tournament for those who qualify and for those who may be interested.  The tournament is usually held the 3rd week of July.  The winner would then advance to a regional tournament held early in the last week of July.

The NWCT Connie Mack Baseball League also has a a playing partnership with the Bristol CT, City League. We have 12 playing dates, which provide both leagues a greater diversity in teams to play.  All games are played at Bristol’s Muzzy Field.  The Bristol League also provides a year end invitational tournament called the Benjamin J. Brezicki tournament held during the first and second week of August.

Teams/Players in the NWCT Connie Mack Baseball League can expect to play 20-30 games during the season depending on their teams qualifying status.
