Milestones Project
This is one of the most exciting projects
undertaken during this 300th year celebration. Amenia residents, old and new, neighbors or
visitors, are asked to contribute their special knowledge of the hamelts of Amenia,
Wassaic, South Amenia, Amenia Union and Smithfield. What we're looking for are any bits of
history, old and new, ancient or modern, that you think should be remembered for future
generations.
We will be compiling all the reliable data that we
receive and posting it on this web site as well as making the database available in the
yown hall and public library.
Much like a timecapsule without limit, this
Milestones Project, will help future historians and residents better appreciate the
fabric, details, structure and pace of our lives and that of those who came before.
Do you know when a house's foundation was laid?
Tell us.
Do you know when a barn was built and who farmed
there? Tell us.
Do you know when a massive tree was planted and
why? Tell us.
Do you know where the old Post Offices were? Tell
us.
Do you know when they paved the road? Tell us.
In short, what you know about Amenia, we want to
know. Please tell us.
To pass along your information, please fill out our milestone form and e-mail it to us.
